IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Con Youth Competition Prep Camp
Refuge BJJ Academy is offering a special 2026 IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Con Competition Prep Camp for eligible youth students preparing to compete at Jiu-Jitsu Con.
This is a no-cost competition prep camp designed to help students prepare technically, mentally, physically, and strategically for the IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Con tournament.
This camp is optional and is not required in order to participate in the tournament.
What Is the Competition Prep Camp?
The Competition Prep Camp includes 7 preparation classes plus 1 introductory information session. These sessions are designed to be high intensity and focused specifically on competition-style training.
This is not a casual class. Students should be ready to work hard, stay focused, and train with intensity.
Introductory Information Sessions
Students and parents should attend one introductory information session before camp begins.
- June 12
- June 19
You do not need to attend both sessions. Returning camp students are encouraged to attend as well.
The information session is for both the student and parent.
Camp Prep Session Dates
Camp prep sessions will take place on the following Fridays:
- July 17
- July 24
- July 31
- August 7
- August 14
- August 21
- August 28
Prep sessions begin at 4:30 PM. Students are also required to stay for the 5:30 PM Youth Competition Class immediately after.
Student Eligibility
To participate in the IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Con Competition Prep Camp, students must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Student must have an active IBJJF membership.
- Student must be registered for the IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Con Kids International 2026 and/or the IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Con Kids No-Gi International 2026.
- Student may not attend the camp until their name appears on the official IBJJF tournament roster.
- This tournament is not open to white belts.
- Student must be 7 years or older unless given prior approval by Coach Josh and Coach Kanani.
- Student must be in good standing at Refuge BJJ Academy.
If a student participates in both Youth and Teen class, please speak with Coach Josh.
IBJJF Membership & Registration
Students must have an active IBJJF membership before competing. Please note that IBJJF membership approval can take 5 to 10 business days, so families should complete this step early.
Students must also be officially registered for the appropriate Jiu-Jitsu Con Kids tournament division before attending the prep camp.
Student Expectations
Students participating in the camp are expected to show up prepared, focused, and ready to work hard.
- Bring a good attitude and willingness to work hard.
- Bring water to every class.
- Maintain sharp focus and intensity throughout training.
- Complete homework assigned at the end of each session.
- Respect coaches, teammates, and the purpose of the camp.
This camp is designed for serious competition preparation. Students should come ready to train with purpose.
Uniform Requirements
Students must bring both gi and no-gi gear to every class, regardless of which tournament division they are registered for.
- Gi and no-gi gear must be IBJJF tournament legal.
- Gi competitors may wear a generic rash guard during no-gi sessions.
- Students may not wear a ranked rash guard that is higher or lower than their current rank.
- No-Gi competitors must have an appropriately ranked rash guard for competition.
Families should review IBJJF uniform requirements before camp begins to make sure all gear is compliant.
Parent Expectations
Parents play an important role in helping students prepare for competition. Please review the expectations below before signing up.
- Expect paperwork and emails related to the tournament and camp.
- No coaching from the side during class.
- Encourage your student and believe in them.
- Notify Coach Josh if your student cannot attend a session.
- Check that your student has water and the required uniform items for every class.

Prepare for Jiu-Jitsu Con with Refuge BJJ
The IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Con Competition Prep Camp is designed to help youth competitors prepare for one of the biggest tournament experiences of the year. Students will work on technical execution, mental preparation, physical intensity, strategy, and competition readiness.
