Why Wrestling Is Great for Kids
Wrestling helps kids develop strength, coordination, discipline, toughness, and body awareness. It teaches students how to work hard, stay focused, and keep moving through challenging situations.
For students already training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling is a great way to improve takedowns, top control, pressure, and overall confidence during live rounds.
Who This Program Is For
- Kids ages 7–12
- Beginners with no wrestling experience
- Current Jiu-Jitsu students who want better takedowns
- Young athletes looking to improve strength, balance, and coordination
- Students interested in competition preparation
No previous wrestling experience is required. Coaches will help students learn at the right pace while maintaining a safe, positive, and challenging training environment.
How Wrestling Supports Jiu-Jitsu
Wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu work extremely well together. Wrestling helps students develop strong takedowns, balance, pressure, and the ability to control where the match takes place.
For young Jiu-Jitsu students, wrestling can help build confidence when starting from the feet and improve their ability to transition from standing positions to control on the ground.
What to Wear
Students should wear no gi attire, such as a rash guard or athletic shirt with shorts or spats. Please avoid clothing with zippers, pockets, or anything that could scratch, snag, or catch during training.
Students should also bring water and be ready to work hard.
Train Youth Wrestling at Refuge BJJ
At Refuge BJJ, our goal is to help young athletes grow both on and off the mats. The Youth Wrestling Program gives students another opportunity to build confidence, discipline, athletic skill, and a strong foundation for martial arts.
